The Must Try Swimsuit Trends for Summer 2022

What’s different about this year is that summer 2022 has brought with it a whole new batch of swimsuit trends for us to experiment with. You’re spoilt for choice with comfortable one-piece suits and sexier silhouettes with a high cut. We’ve pulled together our top swimsuit trends for summer 2022, so you can start your shopping early. With the sun about to come out, you can even take your new swimsuit to your backyard to work on your summer glow.

Hollywood Glamour

When you add a pair of oversized sunglasses and a coat of red lipstick to your look, you can double as a Hollywood start.

If you’re jetting off to a five-star hotel or resort, you can carry the Hollywood glamour look through to the rest of your outfit. Add an oversized open cover-up to keep your shoulders covered from the sun. Instead of everyday flip-flops, why not add some sparkle to your footwear? Add a pair of heels to your look to give it a final touch of elevation. This look is one you’ll want to wear at the poolside bar when you’re sipping on cocktails and watching the sun set.

What we love about this swimsuit is that it takes its inspiration from nightlife and the nightclub scene. It’s just the kind of swimsuit you could picture yourself wearing in a pool at a nightclub in Ibiza.

If sparkles aren’t your thing, and you prefer something more minimalistic, why not swap the gemstones out for a little shine? We love this swimsuit by JADE Swim that takes its inspiration from the ‘80s. The one-shoulder cut and rose gold colour gives it a contemporary feel with a timeless silhouette.

All Tied Up

If there’s anything that can make a two-piece bikini even sexier, it’s ties. A stringy bikini is an essential in every woman’s closet. Adding a few strings makes a bikini work for any body time. If you’ve got curves, the straps will help accentuate your natural shape. Curvy women commonly assume they can’t wear a bikini, when the opposite is true.

One benefit from this style that everyone can take advantage of is the adjustable straps, which you can move and change to suit your body type and desired look. With a stringy bikini, you’ll be able to find a style that works for you and your silhouette.

You can take this trend one step further by adding a retro print, one of the other biggest trends for 2022. The adjustable strings on the side of this two-piece by Zimmerman gives added versatility to the swimsuit. You can lift the strings to create a high-waisted look or cinch them in to make your hips appear smaller. What we also love about this specific bikini is that the adjustable straps also appear on the cleavage, making it easier to personalise your swimsuit – whether you’d rather cover up or show off your assets. If retro isn’t your thing, you can try this animal print bikini by Lisa Marie Fernandez to bring out your wild side.

Ribbed One Piece

A classic one-piece swimsuit is a summer staple. You’ll never want to go on a vacation or a trip to the beach without one. With a versatile one-piece, you can double the swimsuit up as a top and wear denim shorts for a beach goddess look. If shorts aren’t your thing, you can swap it out for a ruffle skirt. The versatility of a one-piece swimsuit means you can wear it underneath just about any summer outfit. If anyone happens to see it, they’ll think it’s a vest top.

This trend is a must-try for summer because it gives you both style and functionality. Ribbed swimsuits have an extra stretch that means you can keep it in your closet for years to come. It’s worth the splurge, as it can grow with you. If you’re looking for a maternity swimsuit, a ribbed one-piece is the perfect way to keep cool at the beach while keeping your bump protected from the sun.

Another group of people who can benefit from a ribbed swimsuit is those that play water sports or volleyball. A ribbed swimsuit will move with you and adapt to your body as you move. If you’re someone who loves to run along the beach or build up a sweat while out surfing, a ribbed one-piece will see you through just about anything.

The classic colour for a ribbed one piece is white – as it gives you added versatility. Plus, it’s the perfect base colour to show off your fresh summer glow. We love this style by Hunza G as it features a cross cross back, which lifts and supports your bust, while helping to hold you in and accentuate your curves. With a little styling, you can take this swimsuit from the beach to cocktails with your friends.
If you’re in the market for a ribbed one piece, it’s best to stick to classic neutral tones that you can mix and match with other summer staples.

Cut Out Swimsuit

The cut-out trend is everywhere that you look in the fashion industry, and it’s made its way into the swimsuit world. If you’ve spent lockdown working on your fitness goals, a cut-out swimsuit will let you show off your gains and toned abs. The cut out silhouette can give a classic swimsuit a more contemporary feel.

If you’re tired of wearing the same swimsuit every season, choosing the style with a cut-out can refresh your summer closet. You can show off some extra skin – making this a must-have for anyone planning a couple’s getaway or if you want to catch a few eyes.

We love this creative swimsuit by PatBO, which uses a chiffon-trimmed halter neck swimsuit and updates the style with both a cut-out and bold sleeves. You can take the swimsuit from day to night by slipping on a pair of tailored pants and your favourite wedge espadrilles.

One thing you’ll want to consider with this style is whether you’re going to be tanning. The last thing you want is tan lines around the cut-outs. If you’re wearing a cut-out swimsuit at the beach, you’ll want to make sure you apply an extra layer of SPF around the cut-out areas to keep your skin protected.

Hula Hoops

One of the most classic styles of swimsuit is the hula hoop. This vintage-inspired swimsuit is back in vogue. It’s a look that’s stood the test of time and is a great option if you want to invest in a swimsuit that you can wear for a few seasons. The hula hoops naturally flatter your shape and the classic silhouette of the swimsuit. If you struggle to keep your bikini top in place, the hula hoop can lift your bikini and keep everything in place.

If you’re looking at bikinis, you can mix and match the top and bottoms for a personalised look. If you’re opting for a hula hoop bikini top, you can balance out your look with a high-waisted bikini bottom to accentuate your figure and pull you in. Agua by Agua Bendita, who handmake their swimsuits. If you’re heading to the poolside bar, you can add a coverup or sarong to finish off your look.

You can still jump on the hula hoop trend with a one-piece. Instead of the circular shape appearing on the top half, you’ll usually see it used as a belt to cinch in your waist. The circular motif of the hula hoop one-piece updates the silhouette and can make your swimsuit appear more expensive and elevated. This trend is a must-try for anyone who likes a classic with a vintage twist.
