The Most Relaxing Bath Ritual for Self-Care

Right now, we all need to relax and unwind. It’s been a difficult year and self-care has never been more important. Whether you’re working from home or shielding from the virus, the chances are that you could do with a few minutes away from the real world. Developing a relaxing bath time ritual can help relieve you of your stress and improve your overall mood. Drawing yourself a bath has the ability to instantly change your outlook and make your problems go away (at least for a while). We’ve put together the essential parts of any bath ritual for the ultimate evening of self-care.

Run a Bubble Bath

The first step is to run your bath. You want to create a relaxing aroma and add a little fun to your bath. Companies like Lush have every bath product you could ever want, from bubble bars to bath oils. Whatever products you choose, you want something that will nourish your skin, so it’s worth looking for ingredients like shea butter and coconut milk. Adding some Epsom salts can help relax your muscles and relieve any stress you’re holding in your body.

Light a Candle

Create a relaxing atmosphere by turning off the lights and striking a match to your favourite candle. Fragrances have the ability to bring us back to our favourite memories and to spark joy. Keep one burning nearby to add a gentle glow to your bath time ritual. If you don’t have a candle, you can switch it up for an essential oil diffuser for the same effect. This alternative is also perfect if you’re not comfortable with having a naked flame in your bathroom.

Pour Yourself a Drink

If you’re planning to soak in the tub for a while, it’s worth bringing a drink along. Make yourself your favourite cocktail or treat yourself to a bottle of your favourite wine. If you’re not an alcohol drinker, keep a chilled glass of diet coke or a warm mug of tea on your counter. A glass of infused water can help keep your skin hydrated while you relax in the bath.

Bring a Book or Netflix

Unless you’re looking to fall asleep in the bath, you’ll want something to entertain you. If you’re a fan of baths, it’s worth investing in a caddy that you can lay across the top of your bath to place an iPad, book, or skincare products onto. While you’re relaxing in the bath, it’s the perfect opportunity to catch up on your favourite Netflix show or to read a few chapters of the book you keep forgetting about.

Indulge in Nourishing Skincare Products

While you’re soaking in the tub, it’s the perfect time to give your skin a nourishing facial and sheet mask. You can apply a clay mask, like Body Shop’s Himalayan Charcoal Purifying Glow Mask to detoxify your skin and unclog your pores.  Adding skincare products to your bath ritual can make it feel as though you are in a spa, instead of being at home in your bathroom.
