Hiding Under Eye Bags – TikTok Hack

Gone are the days when we go to YouTube for makeup hacks. TikTok is our go-to source for all things beauty – including makeup hacks. The viral video sharing platform has taught us everything we wish we had of known in our younger years. Trust us. It would have saved us from a lot of embarrassing makeup mistakes.

One of our favourite TikTok beauty hacks offers a solution for one of the most common beauty problems – under-eye bags. We’re sharing this beauty hack from the @makeup account on TikTok to show you how to brighten your complexion and finally wave goodbye to your under-eye circles.

Getting rid of under-eye bags

The eyes are the window to your soul
– but your under-eye bags can quickly change their appearance. Your under eyes can give you a dull-looking complexion or even make it seem like you haven’t got a wink of sleep the night before. Unfortunately, using a concealer isn’t enough to get rid of these bags.

With the ‘clean makeup’ look becoming one of the biggest trends of 2022, we decided it was finally time to get our under-eye area under control. Whether you’re going all out with a glamorous eyeshadow look or keeping it natural, you want to conceal your under-eye bags to brighten your eyes and give you a flawless finish.

The beauty of this hack is that you can use it with products that will already be part of your daily makeup routine. It’s all about changing the approach to your under-eye makeup and using your products in the correct order.

Your step-by-step tutorial

What we love about this TikTok beauty hack is how quick and easy it is to follow. It’s a makeup tip that you can easily incorporate into your daily makeup routine. We think it’s a gamechanger for anyone who struggles with their under-eye area.

We’re breaking down this tutorial step-by-step to help you recreate it at home, explaining each step of the makeup hack in detail.

1. Liquid foundation

If you want to create a dewy makeup look, you’ve got to be using a liquid foundation. It’s the key to creating a flawless look. Powder foundations are likely to cake around your under-eye area and make it look even more visible. Look out for a formula that is buildable, as this can allow you to focus it more on your imperfections, while leaving the rest of your face with a lighter coverage for a more natural look.

Use your ring finger to gently pat your liquid foundation around your under-eye area. Resist the temptation to use a beauty blender or a brush to speed up this process. Your liquid foundation is the all-important base layer for this makeup. You can start by applying it to your under-eye area before working on the rest of your face.

2. Solid/pot concealer

While liquid foundation is our go-to, you want to use a solid or pot concealer. This allows you to create a more targeted and buildable look. Use a small concealer brush to place the concealer over your under-eye area, focusing from the inner corner outwards. Once you’ve placed the concealer down, blend it out using your ring finger.

A pot or solid concealer gives you the freedom of applying it using a makeup brush and often gives you a more buildable coverage. When you’re using your makeup brush, make sure that you’re applying and blending the concealer using upward motions to help lift your under-eye area.

3. Translucent powder

The most important step of all with this beauty hack is to apply translucent powder. This helps to minimize the appearance of your under-eyes, brighten the area, and set your foundation and concealer in place. You want to try and apply your translucent powder right after using your concealer for a seamless look.

Apply your translucent powder with a shader brush before blending it in using the same brush. You want to lightly dust the brush against your skin to avoid over-blending it. You can also use your translucent powder to help set the rest of your makeup to avoid creasing throughout the day for a flawless look.

Translucent powder is available in a ‘clear’ finish, or you can opt for a setting powder that has a hit of colour to help brighten your under-eye area.

Voila! That’s how easy this beauty hack is to recreate at home.
