Meet Dr. Barbara Sturm beauty brand

When it comes to innovative skincare brands, we count Dr. Barbara Sturm amongst our favourites. This brand is on a mission to educate a generation of skincare users and offers next-generation products that perform modern miracles with a little help from science. Dr. Barbara Sturm offers everything from supercharged serums to deluxe face creams and intense hydration drops. Their products are famous for their anti-aging (and age-defying!) properties.
Dr. Barbara Sturm specialises in so-called ‘age-defying skin solutions’. The brand’s Dusseldorf clinic is infamous amongst the elite and some of the world’s most recognisable celebrities. Do you remember the famous ‘vampire facial’? Dr. Sturm is who Kim Kardashian West visits to get her treatment.
This innovative product range is packed full of active ingredients, including antioxidants that rejuvenate your skin, strengthen your natural protective barrier, and promote cellular regeneration. You don’t have to fly to Germany to experience the magic of Dr. Barbara Sturm. Thanks to her product range, you can take advantage of these innovative formula and products from the comfort of your home.

Who is Dr. Barbara Strum?

Dr. Barbara Strum is an anti-aging orthopaedic doctor who specialises in combating inflammation. She changed over to aesthetics almost twenty years ago, bringing her inventions and science-backed practices into the industry. It is Dr. Strum’s expertise and medical precision that has developed her anti-inflammatory philosophy that has made her brand what it is today.

Her journey over to skincare was a gradual one, bringing with her everything that she learnt within the sports industry, including repair within osteoarthritis and orthopaedics.
Dr. Strum is considered to be one of the best-kept secrets within the beauty industry and her products stock the shelves of some of Hollywood’s most famous faces. Dr. Barbara Strum first gained the attention of beauty editors and the public in 2002 when her innovative ‘blood plasma facial’ – now known as the vampire facial – entered the market. It was quickly followed by her wonder product, the MC1 cream, which you can only get your hands on by visiting one of her clinics.
If you want to get your hands on this MC1 cream, you’ll have to join growing waitlist. The MC1 cream is a bespoke plasma-based cream that mixes your white blood cells and proteins with the moisturiser to give you naturally glowing skin.

The Dr. Barbara Strum brand hit the shelves of skincare stores in 2014 and are now available in 52 countries, including in spas and boutiques across the world. You can find it in Dusseldorf, New York, and Los Angeles. Dr. Strum is famous for her pop-up spa that is hosted during Paris Fashion Week.
What is unique about Dr. Barbara Strum is that the brand remains independent, while other smaller brands are being bought up by conglomerates. Her ‘healthy scepticism’ of overly marketed terms like ‘clean’ and ‘organic’ has won her the praise of beauty editors across the spectrum.

What makes Dr. Barbara Strum Products Special?

Every Dr. Barbara Strum product is packed full of powerful naturally occurring and advanced science ingredients that are highly effective, non-irritating, non-toxic, and cruelty-free. The aim of these products is for them to be easy to use and incorporate into your skincare routine.

The brand choses not to apply labels like ‘organic’ or ‘natural’ to their products, as they believe these labels don’t have a consistent definition or impact the safety or efficiency of the product. Although Dr. Barbara Strum is an internationally recognised brand, they have chosen not to sell in China in order to maintain their cruelty-free production.
Almost every Dr. Barbara Strum product is made without parabens, with the exception of the Sun Drops SPF 50, which includes a low concentration to maintain its stability. Any fragrance that is incorporated into these products are kept at a level that is proven tolerable for sensitive skin.
While you won’t see the name ‘vegan’ applied to these products, almost all of the formulas are made entirely of vegan ingredients. One ingredient that is not vegan is the cruelty-free beeswax that appears in numerous products.
Although you’ll find other brands using influencers to promote their products, Dr. Barbara Strum still believes that word of mouth is the greatest marketing power. She told Vogue that “if you formulate great products with a clear effect, people will use them religiously and evangelise them too”.
It’s a good thing that the word of mouth behind Dr. Barbara Strum includes the likes of Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Emily Ratajkowski, Emma Roberts, and Bella Hadid. When Dr. Strum hosted her #SturmMaskathon in May 2020 as a global live fundraiser for WHO and First Responders First, her guest list could rival even the most significant award shows. Everyone from Alessandra Ambrosio to Jason Wu, Maria Sharapavoa and Nicole Scherzinger appeared on screen.

Dr. Barbara Strum’s digital marketing strategy has focused on educating through masterclasses – featuring co-hosts like Rachel Zoe and Matthew Walker – alongside educational and self-care videos on TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube.
